To keep eggs warm until they hatch, or to allow something to develop gradually over time.

"The hen incubated her eggs for three weeks before they hatched."

"Incubate" is also used for how diseases or ideas develop quietly before becoming visible, as in "incubate a virus" or "incubate a plan".
