Wordabulary ("we", "us") operates wordabulary.com. This page explains what information we collect, why, and how it's handled, including the advertising that helps keep the service free.

Information we collect

• Account information — if you register, we store your name, email address, and a securely hashed password (or a passkey credential if you choose passwordless sign-in).
• Learning progress — for registered accounts, we store your word practice history, quiz results, streaks, points, badges, and display preferences (theme, text size, avatar, pronunciation accent) so your progress is saved between visits.
• Contact form submissions — if you use our contact form, we store the name, email, and message you provide so we can respond to you.
• Essential cookies — first-party session and security (CSRF) cookies required for the site to function, such as staying logged in.
• Analytics cookies — we use Google Tag Manager to load basic site-usage analytics (such as which pages are visited) so we can understand how the service is used and improve it.
• Advertising cookies — we show ads through Google AdSense to help keep Wordabulary free. Google and its advertising partners may set cookies or use similar technology to serve ads and measure their performance; where required by law, this only happens after you've given consent (see "Cookies & advertising" below).

Anonymous visitors can practise and take quizzes without creating an account. In that case, no learning progress is stored — session activity exists only in your browser and is not saved to our database.

Cookies & advertising

Wordabulary is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Google and its partner networks may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites, and to measure how those ads perform. Where consent is legally required (for example, visitors in the UK, EEA, or Switzerland), ad and analytics cookies are only set once you've given consent through the cookie banner shown on your first visit — you can change your choice at any time from that banner.

Your US state privacy rights

If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, that law may give you the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information for cross-context behavioral (interest-based) advertising. Serving ads through Google AdSense can count as "sharing" under these laws, even though we don't sell any data for money.

You can exercise this right through the privacy choices banner shown to eligible US visitors, or at any time by emailing our email address . We won't deny you service, charge you a different price, or provide a lower quality of service because you exercised any privacy right described on this page.

How we use your information

We use your information to operate your account, save your learning progress, respond to support requests, show relevant advertising, and keep the service secure (for example, detecting abuse of forms). We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.

Service providers

We use a transactional email delivery provider to send account-related email (such as email verification and password resets) and to deliver messages submitted through our contact form. We use standard web hosting and database infrastructure to run the site, Google Tag Manager to load basic site-usage analytics, and Google AdSense to serve advertising. These providers process data only as needed to provide their part of the service, subject to their own privacy policies.

Your choices

• You can update or correct your account information at any time from your Profile & settings page.
• You can delete your account at any time from Settings — this removes your saved progress, streaks, and personal information from our active database.
• You can manage or withdraw cookie consent at any time from the cookie banner, and manage ad personalization directly through Google Ads Settings.
• You can contact us at our email address to ask what data we hold about you or to request its deletion.

Children's privacy

Wordabulary is intended for teens and adults. Registration requires confirming you are 13 or older, and the service is not directed to children under 13 — we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If we learn that we've collected personal information from a child under 13, we'll delete it. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided us with personal information can contact us at the address below to request its removal.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "last updated" date above.
