median income

Noun B1 – Intermediate

The middle value of income when all incomes in a group are arranged from lowest to highest, often used instead of the average to describe typical earnings.

"The city's median income rose slightly last year, though housing costs rose faster."

"Median" is often a more accurate picture of a "typical" income than "average", since it isn't skewed by a few very high earners.
