A sharp increase in the size of a vibration when something is driven at its own natural frequency, or, more loosely, a strong emotional or cultural response that a message produces.

"The bridge's collapse was partly blamed on resonance caused by soldiers marching in step."

'Resonance' is often used outside physics to describe an idea or story that strikes a chord with a lot of people.
